The Art of the Weekend Reset
You ever hit Friday night feeling like your brain just ran a marathon without your consent? Yeah, same. By the time the weekend rolls around, I’m basically a human-shaped pile of exhaustion, held together by caffeine and sheer willpower. And I know I’m not alone in this.
That’s why I’ve learned the importance of a good old-fashioned mental reset. The weekend isn’t just for errands and Netflix binges (though those have their place). It’s a chance to hit pause, clear out the mental clutter, and actually feel like a functioning human again by Monday.
Here’s how I make it happen:
1. Get Some Actual Rest (No, Seriously)
Look, I get it—sleeping in until noon sounds amazing. But quality rest isn’t just about quantity. It’s about giving your mind and body a real break. So maybe don’t stay up until 2 a.m. scrolling TikTok. Instead, try reading a book, meditating, or just laying there in blessed silence without a screen glowing in your face.
2. Move, But Make It Fun
Exercise doesn’t have to mean forcing yourself through a miserable 5K. Go for a walk. Dance around your kitchen like you’re in a music video. Stretch while watching your favorite show. Moving your body shakes off the stress of the week and reminds you that you exist outside your office chair.
3. Do Something That Sparks Joy
Paint, play an instrument, bake cookies—whatever makes you feel like a kid again. Creativity and play aren’t just for children; they’re for anyone trying to stay sane in this chaotic world.
4. Set Some Boundaries (And Stick to Them)
The group chat will survive if you take a day off. Work emails can wait. It’s okay to tell people, “Hey, I’m taking some time for myself this weekend.” Protecting your peace is self-care, not selfishness.
5. Reflect Without Overthinking
Take a few minutes to check in with yourself. How are you feeling? What do you need more (or less) of? Write it down if that helps. Just don’t spiral into an existential crisis—we’re going for a reset, not a breakdown.
By the time Monday hits, you’ll thank yourself. You’ll be a little more refreshed, a little more grounded, and maybe even ready to tackle the week without wanting to run away to a remote cabin in the woods.
Take the time. You deserve it.
